I was living in a place that had roaches a couple of years ago. I just opened my ps4 because it was over heating (2 years ago I opened it to clean it and cleaned it and it was good) I decided to do the same thing again and found a lot of roaches inside. Somehow this thing is still working. After cleaning the dust and everything else that was inside of it some of the small grey pads inside are completly worn. I re assembled the ps4 and now it sounds 3x worse than it did before after cleaning it and can’t run a game without overheating and having a red light. I don’t know what the grey pads do I’m assuming something to do with cooling. No clue what to do.
The grey pads you are referring to are thermal pads. They are placed on the RAM chips on the board to help transfer heat off them to the heatsink above. Did you separate the CPU heatsink from the board? If you did, did you replace the thermal paste on the CPU itself? When cleaning a console, I always recommend removing the CPU heatsink and replacing thermals, this also allows you to clean both sides of the fan much better and blow through the heatsink and completely clear it out :) Hope this helps you somewhat :) PlayStation 4 Thermal Paste Replacement
