Chosen Solution

Hello, My ps3 has one of the most odd symptoms I have ever experienced. Things to note (the ps3 did have YLOD when I purchased it) I fixed this issue and the system runs very cool. I took all the dust out of the console and dusted the board off myself. Here is the issue. Upon initial boot up the system will load a game and then go into that game’s menu, however right after loading the save file for that game(sometimes directly sometimes minutes later ) the system will crash and give the YLOD and then blinking red light(overheat). That being said the system isn’t remotely warm at this point. Plus if you flip the switch in the back of the console off and back on and then reboot the console and let it do its (hard drive checkup) it will run fine for hours without a single hiccup. My main question is Do you think this is a HDD issue? Do you think the issue is stemming from the original YLOD. Any and all help that is relevant is much appreciated!

The yellow light of death can indicate a power-supply or faulty Chips on the board. you said you removed the dust etc, did your reflow the board ? without reflowing the board the device will still be faulty. the damage is caused when the device gets hot and the solder joints melt or crack through the hot cold stages. Cleaning the device out at this point is not a fix as the damage is already done to the chip. The fact it is when you are in a game or loading a save could relate to this problem the ps3 menu is requires very little power hence why the machine maybe stable at this point however as soon as your game loads your putting strain on the cpu and the GPU which if they are damage would cause instabilities PSU faults are also shown by a YLOD although this usally happens when the machine wont turn on at all. Hope this helps
