Chosen Solution

Hello I googled everything & everywhere but couldn’t find an answer. I have iPhone 7 Plus stuck at press home to upgrade screen, home button is broken. I tried pressing power + Volume down. Then tried connecting iTunes, that says enter passcode on phone to connect. Latest iOS. Advise a solution please. Reply soon. If this button is repairable or not?

I FOUND THE FIX! After a successful update or restore, plug the device into itunes, then set up as new ipad. Go to accessibility, then put voice over on. This will allow you to double click the “press home to open” and continue the setup process!

I manage to resolve the problem :) conect the Iphone with i-tunesPress power + Volume down and hold it until i-tunes will recognize Iphone and ask you to restore or update IphoneI press restore and i-tunes start to dawnload the softwareAfter finish the dawnload I press power + volumen down again and hold it until again i-tunes asked you the same question .. figure 2Click restore and i-tunes will start to restore your Iphone to factory settingsOnce done, asked me again to press home button - “Hello - press home button to continue” (which doesn’t work) so I switch phone off and turn it on again… then I manage to set it like new IphoneOnce done this set HOME BUTTON on TOUCHSCREEN -> go to Settings - General > Accessibility , Scroll down to the section labeled INTERACTION and tap on AssistiveTouch (ON) .

I had the same problem and finally figured it out.

Have the phone on

Plug it into your computer with iTunes open.Press and hold the volume down buttonWhile doing step 3 press and hold the power button.Once screen is black keep holding the volume down button yet let go of the power button. The computer should recognize the devise within 10 seconds.Update using iTunes.

if you can go into settings go to general, then accessabilty, then assistive touch and turn it on and it should give you an on screen home button

The home button it’s self is not generally repairable. Is this after a screen replacement?

If none of this helps and you’re still stuck on press home to upgrade, try to just remove the sim card than put another sim in, it will take you to wifi setting to activate your phone. From there you can set up as normal.

You can buy this handy device that acts as an external home button. I’ve used that lifesaver to bypass “press home to upgrade” on iPhones that have broken home buttons. From there on you can just use AssistiveTouch as an on-screen home button. Or, you can keep using the adapter as your home button in the future if you wish.

If you are restoring your phone from a backup & you have a home buttong issue, do the following; Before you backup up the phone enable voice over through the accessibility menu. The assistive touch option does not work when you are stuck on the press home to upgrade screen. The voice over option allowed me to click on the home to upgrade then double tap to continue. Worked for me.

For those who don’t know how to restore your iPhone to allow yourself to put on Voice Over to bypass the “Press home button to upgrade”. Plug your iPhone to iTunes and try that way, if it requires that the iPhone be unlocked you can download Reiboot and from there you can manually restore and update it from your computer. When you restore it, it will say “press home to open”. You are going to hold the lock button to restart your phone. After you restart it, it will bypass that screen. then set up as new iPhone/iPad on your computer. Go to accessibility, then put voice over on. This will allow you to double click the “press home to open” and continue the setup process!

I gave up. I was stuck in “upgrade…” white screen and my home button wasn’t working. Also, reiboot or itunes couldn’t identify my phone. I went to an alternative repair store and they enforced DFU with a little machine pluged in my phone. I forgot the name. They didnt even charged me.

Turn off iPhone. When turning on, connect to computer, it will open iPhone recovery mode on iTunes, and let you update or restore iPhone. the screen on iPhone will change from “press home to upgrade” to iTunes logo

If there’s no important data on it, restore it, once that’s done you can click on the iPhone logo, pass the “get started" screen so the iPhone storage and everything pops up, you can turn on the voice option and unlock it from there, tap once on the “press home button to unlock" then double tap it. That’s how I got passed it on my iPhone 7. Restored to blank then set up afterwards. Maybe upload your backup to the cloud so you can just use it after? Just don’t let the phone timeout and you’ll be fine. My first choice was to turn on assistive touch.

I have had the same problem. I have an after market screen with a broken home button. When attempting a software update, it prompts you to press HOME button after it powers back on but doesn’t allow you to use the Assistive Touch (virtual home button) or touch screen, leaving you with major anxiety. I was able to press power button and volume down while plugging into computer… THEN passcode comes up but you still can’t use touch screen, so I hit power button to clear / refresh the screen and WALLAH, suddenly Assistive Touch was enabled after screen refreshed and then I was able to enter passcode and continue finishing update. A serious pain but this method works for me on my Apple iphone 7 plus.

ebay sell iphone 7/8 (JC version 3 home button ) which works via bluetooth but needs small bridge fitted,,,there is also a final version which doesnt need bluetooth or the bridge fitted

Hi Guys, I managed to make my iPhone 7 work again from the “Press Home to Upgrade” screen while the home button is broken. I tried many times with the restoration and update so I’m not sure how it happened and not sure the steps below will 100% work for you. I have a Mac running OS X 10.15.4 and an iPhone 7. iTunes is no longer with the latest OS X . So, I used Finder to do all these steps. Here is what I did: Plug iPhone (showing “Press Home to Upgrade” ) to the MacLong Hold Volume Down & Power Buttons-> iPhone will be shown in Folder which means the iPhone is in Recovery ModeIn Finder -> Select iPhone -> Update (I’m not quite sure if I updated the phone successfully or not)Put the phone in Recovery Mode again -> Open Finder -> Select iPhone -> Restore iPhone to the Original Settings and Latest iOSAfter “Restore” -> Turn on the phone -> Finder -> iPhone -> Configure Accessibility -> Use Voice Over -> Now you can double tap the words to “slide to open” your iPhone. In Finder -> Backups -> Restore BackupAfter “Restore Backup” you should see the setup screen like factory reset, but not the “Press Home to Upgrade” screen, and the Voice Over and Assitive Touch are still there, and the data is restored back the phone. Hope it helps.

hello sir please to help me my phone can’t press button home because press home to upgrade. I hope that you can help me.

Hi everyone. I had the same problem with an iphone 6 that had a home button that wasn’t working. I downloaded and installed ReiBoot. Launched the app, plugged in the phone that was stuck at the ‘click home to upgrade screen’; clicked on ‘enter recovery mode’’ and boom! Just like that the phone entered recovery mode. After that the phone was recognised by my Mac and I updated the iOs and after it was done I then used a backup I had made on my Mac prior to the factory reset and restored the phone which installed all apps and data.

You need to make a backup of your phone to iTunes with the screen home button activated. When you use this backup you will see the screen home button active when it asks you to press home button, just press the screen home button and away you go. If you haven’t got a backup log someone else’s phone into your account and make a backup from that one after activating the screen home button, you can of course use your own backup to that phone activate screen home button and resave, of course making sure your mates was backed up first.

I have an iphone 6s and I BROKE my home button and henmy dad finds out he kill me and ho to fix it. download the itunes on your computer on ipad and it should ask you to plug it on your computer than it will show this black box around the press home button to upgrade click it and BWOOM but mines wont let me do it.and your welcome!

You are presented with the “press home to upgrade” screen. When you plug the phone into Itunes it isn’t recognized because you have a password. To get around this, you must put the phone in recovery mode & set it up as a new phone without a password. Then connect phone to itunes & restore a backup you had from before.

I managed to solve the problem for my iphone with a broken home button. I think it has something to do with the OS of your mac, it has to be a higher/updated OS for iOS 14.3 to work. Unfortunately, I backed up my data into a macOS Mojave. And it still kept going to the white screen even after updating software & restoring to factory settings. SOLUTION #1: Update your OS You can update your OS (mine worked on Catalina). The process of backup & restore will no longer be under “Music” previously known as iTunes. You’ll now back it up via Finder. You’ll see your iphone at the sidebar once you connect it with your USB cable. or if this method takes too long, here’s how I did it. SOLUTION #2: Borrow someone else’s mac with a higher OS (I used Catalina). On your iPhone, From the white screen, press your Sleep/Wake button + Volume Down button and long hold. The iphone will turn off and turn back on. Keep holding until you come to the Recovery Screen then let go. It should show you a diagram to connect to laptop via cable. (This takes a few tries)Connect your iPhone to the mac via USB cable. It won’t show up in “Music” app (previously iTunes) so don’t go there. You will find your iPhone in Finder sidebar with an eject sign next to it.Click on your iPhone at the side bar. It will prompt you to either Update Or Restore - Choose Restore. The phone will reset and will start at the “Hello” screen - Set up your iphone as a new iphone.Return to your own mac (mine was Mojave) and locate your backup files in your Finder.Click on Finder>Go>Go To Folder… OR Finder>command+shift+GType in this: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/BackupChoose your backup (named with a bunch of letters and numbers - Right click>Get Info to see the date and time it was created)Copy the folder to an external drive/pendriveGo over to the higher OS Mac, repeat steps 6-7 and paste your backup folder in there. Now replug your reseted iPhone into the higher OS Mac again, and click on it at the Finder sidebar. You will now have the option to restore your backup. The newly copied backup should show up.Back that bugger up. And vuala you’re done.

Do you know the virtual home key on the iPhone? it can be round like on iphone 12, or square like on iphone 7. SOLVED! Date: 02/09/2021 My devices: iMac mid-2015 in macOS Big Sur. iPhone 8 with working TouchID but Home Button broken. Managed to get through DFU and setup as new device, yet failed to restore from an old backup, stuck at the “press home button to upgrade” screen.  Tried several times with enabling either VoiceOver or Assistive Touch before restoring backup, yet all failed.  I BINGO by disabling both TouchID and passcode to unlock the phone, no more “press home button to upgrade” screen after all, got all data saved. Here is the walkthrough: connect the iPhone to Mac.Press and release of Volume Up button, then press and release of Volume Down button.  Press and hold the Power button, you will see power off and back on, release when you see Recovery Mode screen.  (a cable pointed to a mac)On Mac side, Finder should prompt update or restore your iPhone.  Click restore, it started downloading Firmware automatically, which brings iPhone back to factory default. After restarting, setup as new device.  (As my iPhone had assistive touch enabled here, no problem get through the Hello screen).Go to Setting > Touch ID & Passcode, uncheck (use Touch ID for) iPhone unlock, then Turn Passcode Off.Back to Finder, Location > your iPhone,  hit Restore Backup under General section. After restoring backup finished, no “press home button to upgrade” screen this time, direct me to Hello screen with Assistive Touch enabled. You know what to do. I hope it helps.

Please upgrade my phone

Hi everybody! I had the same problem with my iphone 6 and a broken home button. My iphone storage is full and I want to reset it. I’ve done a backup on itunes and about to restore it. The first “hello welcome” screen requires a home button to continue. I managed to get past it using 3utools to add assistivetouch via accessibility settings. While restore process is running, I left it. At that time I made a passcode lock and when I came back, the screen was stuck on the “Press home button to upgrade”. I couldn’t press the assistivetouch that was there. After searching and doing various ways on the internet, I managed to solve it by flashing recovery mode (idk what it calls) and repeating the process restore without adding passcode. You can do flash recovery mode via reiboot but it is paid and I did it via 3utools for free.
