This is a weird one! After replacing the SSD with an Aura Pro and getting it correctly recognized, the MBP works continuously but ONLY if left on sleep when not in use. If I shut down normally I can’t use the power button to startup again. For that reason I can only use this p/t. I need to open the Mac back up each time I want to use it , unplug the battery connector, unscrew & re-insert the SSD, put the battery connector back in, screw the back down again and THEN it’s ready to go again but only (as described above) for a single (extended) session. Restart works OK but if I shutdown and then use the power button to start up, nothing. it’s dead! Is this something as simple as the power button/MagSafe needing attention/repair? Update (10/07/2021) Hello Dan. I’ve added Coconut Battery to my Mac and here are the results:
Update (10/08/2021) Before installing another battery tomorrow when I’ve got more time, I’ve tested both the battery and the sensors using Techtool. Here are the results of the Sensors test. TechTool Pro 12 Sensors
and for the Battery TechTool Pro 12 Battery
I’d be tempted to give more weight to these tests than the Apple diagnostic, but evidence is evidence. After installing the other battery I’ll let you know what happens. cheers N
You’re encountering a latched SMC issue. Whats happening is once the system is running SMC discovers an issue, it then sets the latch state preventing you from restarting. What you are doing when you disconnect the battery and allowing the SSD to discharge the logic so SMC forgets the latch state which allows you to startup cleaning once more but as soon as you shutdown you are down for the count! So now we know whats happening we need to learn what SMC is seeing that makes it unhappy. Hopefully it gives us a clue! Here’s a simpler way to flush SMC: Disconnect the battery and this time just press the power button holding it for about 15 sec. plugin your battery that does it. Now when your startup press the D key to enter into the onboard diagnostics. Did you get any error messages? Let us know then we can figure out what the next step is.
