Hello Mark, The first thing I would try is hard resetting the laptop. To do this, you will need to hold the power button down for 5 to 10 seconds. Then turn the PC back on.
According to what I have heard, the backlight may have failed. Try shining a bright light, like a flashlight, on the screen and checking if you can see anything.
