My boys spilt a whole cup of pop down the back of the freezer. Not much came out of the bottom (the fridge area). Will it cause any damage? How do I go about cleaning it?

Hi, What is the make and model number of the refrigerator? What could have happened is that most of the pop has flowed down into the evaporator pan which is located underneath and outside the compartments near the compressor motor. There is a drain tube beneath the evaporator unit leading to the evaporator pan and normally this is where the water from the melting ice flows when the refrigerator automatically defrosts. The meltwater in the evaporator pan evaporates naturally and as the defrost cycle occurs approximately once every 10 hours normally the pan doesn’t overflow onto the floor under the refrigerator. Some of it may also have frozen onto the evaporator unit if it came into contact with it as the evaporator unit is extremely cold, ( 0° F or -18° C). The evaporator unit is located inside the freezer compartment behind a panel. To access it you need to remove the panel by going from the front as you cannot access it from the back of the refrigerator cabinet. You need to disconnect the power from the refrigerator and remove any shelves from the freezer compartment and then remove the back panel of the compartment from the inside of the compartment. There may be problems if the liquid came into contact with any exposed electrical connections behind the panel e.g. there is an evaporator fan and no doubt a defrost thermostat just to name two. The electrical harness connections would need to be checked to ensure that there has been no contact with any liquid.
