Chosen Solution

I purchased this ipod on ebay and it works perfectly, except it would only play through one channel. If I pull the headphone plug out slightly, it will play through both speakers. I have fixed a fair amount of headphone jack problems, so I ordered a new hp jack and installed it. The problem is still the same, even with the new jack. I even took a jack out of another ipod I knew for sure functioned, and still it’s the same! It seems odd because if it were a problem with the motherboard/ribbon wire clip, then pulling the plug out slightly might not make a difference in the speaker channels. Then again, I’m not sure. The ipod doesn’t look like it’s been opened before I received it. I can only conclude that the motherboard or the ribbon wire clip connections are bad. Has anyone else been equally perplexed by this problem, or have any advice on how to fix it?

  • if pulling out the plug slightly makes it play through both speakers, do you get same channel through both, or do you get both channels? If you get both channels, the problem should be located between the jack and the plug. Could it be that for some reason the plug gets in too deep? If you get same channel through both speakers, then I will agree on your conclusion.

Yes, pulling the plug out slightly results in both earphones working… but not to full capacity. Both are notably quieter than before, and there are elements of the audio, usually backing vocals/harmonies that are inaudible

How dit you fix it? :/
