It seems to me the play, pause button on the click wheel is not responding to the play/pause action . All other functions on the wheel are functioning. The iPod as well will not turn off. Would the click wheel be the issue or is it the logic board.
It could be either the click wheel flex or it could be the motherboard. I would fist take apart to make sure everything is still connected internally. If not, simply fix. If they are, then you will have you go in a little deeper and change the click wheel flex cable. They are not that expensive and the 5th gen’s are usually pretty easy to disassemble. If all the above fails, then you’ll be looking at a motherboard repair.
What I have come to find out is that the click wheel connector and ribbon cable had a loose connection from the adhesive breaking down. The ribbon cable has a sloppy fit on the connector and am speculating that the connection has a sloppy fit and did not make a full connection, but I have 3 more with the same issue and find that ironic. Thanks for the feedback.
