Chosen Solution

We were watching a TV show via the iPlayer on the XBox last night. Midway through the program, the screen went plain black with just HDMI3 in the corner. We have tried all inputs and all are now just displaying plain black. The menus display fine as do the apps. We can launch an app (for example iPlayer) and can browse to a programme, bit when it should start playing the programme it goes back to plain black screen. Even ‘live’ TV through the aerial is plain black. We have powered off, done a reset, but does not resolve. Have plugged our old TV back in and the XBox only now works on this if we use a different HDMI cable.

Just in case this information is useful to anyone else with the same issue, we fixed the issue by buying a new main board online and replacing it. It appears the issue was with the HDMI port on the board as the HDMI cable was damaged too. We don’t know whether the cable damaged the TV or vice versa. We took a photo of the board before we removed it, so that we ould be sure to put it back together correctly, but it was pretty straightforward. Just lots of screws to get the TV back off and being sure to reconnect all of the connectors very carefully. The new board cost £30, so it was definitely worth having a go at the repair and we’re thrilled that it worked.
