Chosen Solution

I have a PS4 that I am trying to fix. It was not displaying at first, but once I booted it into safe mode, the picture displayed. After restarting the console in 480p, I went into the settings to up the resolution, the display got worse the higher resolution I went, with red dots all over the screen(pictures below). The screen will slightly flicker on 720p and get worse at 1080i and 1080p.   My question is:   Has the HDMI port on the motherboard $@$* itself or has the HDMI chip on the motherboard done it in?   Thanks in advance!

Hi @rangsm8 I did mean a reset as I was trying to forestall replacing the HDMI chip in case it wasn’t the problem. Here’s a video that shows what would be involved in doing this. replacement chips are available online.

It seems like there is a problem in your HDMI cable. Replace the data cable connected between PS4 and TV to verify the HDMI cable status. There may be also issue with your TV resolution. Please reconfigure your TV resolution through any technician.

I had exactly the same issue, replaced the encoder as suggested here, turns out to be a bad filter … Spent 40€ on a new encoder while the original one was working good ! So before replacing an encoder, always check if the filters are testing good :)
