Hi guys, I’m having some big issues with my old iPhone 5. First off I did a lock button and home button reset and it brought it to a new start up menu where I had to connect to wifi and restart the phone as I ‘restarted it’ which was unusual. But the device couldn’t find my sim so it wouldn’t start. So I taken matters into my own hands and as the phone got soap in it once I thought the insides could be hot. So i got a hair dryer and tried to dry the damp looking phone for 3 minutes. I then went to turn the phone on and it now won’t turn on at all! Any help for what I could of broken?
It is almost impossible to know the issue based on the information, as so many parts could have been compromised. I would start with getting an amp meter, so you can see if the phone is drawing any power, to try and focus in on what is causing the problem. If the phone is drawing a normal amount of power (around 1 amp), then it would point towards some kind of display issue (bad screen, bad backlight, damaged fpc connector etc), but if it’s not drawing any power or minimal power, it would likely be an issue with the board.
Hi David, thanks for your input I have a multi meter at work so I’ll give it a try! Where would you place the amp meters rods on the phone to see where the power is coming from? The screen was definitely damaged I need to place a new one on it as well so I’m hoping that’s the case! If the board is broken then I take it that the phone is dead? Is there any way to retrieve the data of it? I appreciate all of this help thank you!
Hi guys, just to let you know the phone works now! I placed a new screen on it and left it on charge and it just turned on, the flex cable was damaged cheers for all of your input. To get the sim to work I heated up the sim tray which has soap and then blew the phone out with an air gun… Rightly or wrongly doing so its fixed!!
