I’m currently facing the same problem of my pavilion Dv8T turning on but without backlit display. The screen seems to be working fine just that there’s no backlight to actually allow the user to see anything, but when I close & open the lid, the screen light blinks (comes up for a second then goes off). I’ve tried the hard reset & removing the cmos battery, to no avail. Please I need to know what to replace or do to fix this.

Hi, With the laptop turned on but no display, try shining a torch (flashlight) at an angle close to the display and check for any images on the screen. They will be very faint if they are there, so trying this in a darkened room may help to see them. If you can see images, then there’s a backlight problem with the display. Your model laptop uses 2 x CCFL tubes (cold cathode fluorescent) for the backlighting and these are powered by an inverter board in the laptop. Here’s the maintenance and service guide for the laptop. On p.72 of 153 (pdf numbering) {Sect. 4-34 in the manual} it shows the procedure to remove the display assembly. On p.75 of 153 {Sect4-37} it shows how to remove the inverter. The inverter part number is 498324-001. Note: It may be that the inverter is OK but that both the CCFL tubes are faulty although it would be strange for both to fail at the same time. Here’s some info that may help with this. Replacement CCFL tubes for your laptop. (supplier example only to show cost of part). Just search for HP DV8T- 1200 CCFL tubes to find suppliers that suit you best. You can buy a CCFL backlight tester online if you wish to prove that the tubes are OK before ordering them in case the problem is the inverter
