I have a Macbook Pro A1398 late 2013. When I connect the Magsafe charger the green light comes on for about 3 seconds then it turns orange and remains orange even after several hours. SMC Reset tried. No chime, no trackpad click, no fans running, etc. when pressing the power button (on keyboard). I have heard that there are two PCB pads that can be shorted to try a restart without the keyboard power button, but I have not found any references for this model of MacBook Pro. I have changed the logic board, battery and MagSafe charger without that making any difference. There remains the keyboard and the aluminium case as original equipment. Any ideas ?

  • Thank Dan for your rapid reply. I tried disconnecting the battery and the charger, pressing the power button then reconnecting only the magsafe charger - it made no difference so it may well be the keyboard, Just in case, a photo of the keyboard connector is below.

The power pads are well hidden in this series!

I’m sure your issue is the keyboard or the cables connection to the logic board. Post some pics of the cable end so we can see it as well as it plugged in to the socket Adding images to an existing question A second way you can test this is if the keyboard is working. You can disconnect all of the connections and the battery, press the power button to discharge the logic board, then carefully plug in the MageSafe charger that should cause the system to spontaneously boot. But if your keyboard is bad that won’t work. Update (04/04/2020) This does not look good ;-{ The picture is a little fuzzy but I think the connector cable clamp is missing!
