Hi! So recently my MacBook randomly stopped working properly. One USB port is no longer working. No power or device works on that port. Every other port works perfectly fine. What’s the repair process to fix that si glue port? Thank you!
First step would be testing power and data lines of the Usb port..a multimeter would do for first ones and an oscilloscope would be needed for data lines, providing you have a good board to compare results with. Other than that you’d need a skilled repairer into component level repairs.
OK thats a good sign! So the port connector is likely the problem Vs the driver chip behind it on the logic board its self (both ports would have been effected) Here’s the needed part: MacBook Pro Retina (A1706 & A1707 Late 2016-2017) USB-C Board You’ll need to first follow this guide to get the bottom cover off: MacBook Pro 15" Touch Bar Late 2016 Lower Case Replacement Then you’ll need to take the logic board out to gain access to the two screws holding the connector core. While it looks daunting its not too bad! Just carefully disconnect the ribbon cables which are held by the metal covers and the mount screws. Use the MacBook Pro 15" Touch Bar Teardown to help you see when everything is. Once the board is out you can gain access to the screws.
