If I’m correct the upper mic is the one that records the sound for videos and the speaker during calls. This mic is not working. What can I do to fix this? The mic works perfectly during calls (no speaker), while recording audio on whatsapp, and recording voice memos. So I know the problem is the upper microphone and not the lower microphone. How do I fix it? Thank you.

I have had this issue three or four times, usually after I installed an app like voice recording, or recently, streaming radio. So far, rebooting has almost always fixed it. Once, I did have to delete the offending app.

The iPhone 4 has this as a common issue and most of the time it can be fixed with a simple hard reset.

The Proximity Flex cable for the GSM iPhone 4 contains the top mic, so if that is your problem changing that flex cable should solve the issue.

What joseA said the upper mic is located on the proximity sensor replacing this will sort you out

I used to use my iPhone 5s to record a show. Even though the show was extremely loud, my phone still couldn’t record any sound. I searched the internet and found one answer: tear off the plastic cover on the back of the phone. I found there was a tiny hole besides the camera, which I assume it’s where the audio inputs. I did record sound ever since I tore it off.
