Have Craftsman G5500 (mod # 917.204030), It will not start. I traced the problem to the fuel solenoid which is not getting power. Wire goes back to Smart Switch (Husqvarna #584790601). I can put 12v on the wire at the switch plug, starts and runs fine. What tells the switch to send power to fuel solenoid or how do I test the switch. Replacement switch is $200, don’t want to waste the money if I don’t need a new one. Thanks!

REF: Operator’s Manual for Craftsman 917.20403 Look on Page 20 in the manual above, and follow the “PRE-START” procedures. Does the smart switch blink blue while waiting for the passcode? Does the smart switch blink red or green after entering the passcode? Does the smart switch give you any warning lights (ex. Park Brake, Blade switch)? This will let you know if the smart switch thinks there is another problem that is hindering starting. Also, look on page 33 in the manual, and see if the smart switch is behaving contrary to the manual. The smart switch should give you an error light for the basic problems like the safety switches that typically wear out (ex. brake switch/PTO), so if you are getting no error lights, then it suggests the smart switch is the error and needs to be replaced. If the smart switch is displaying nothing at all (even the blue blinking - see Page 20 and Page 33 - while waiting for the passcode), then I would imagine that you need to check to see if the smart switch is even getting power before you go through the expense of replacing it.
