The device has been non-functional for months now, hence, I decide to have a look at what might have been the problem. I’ve performed the standard SMC reset and disconnect the battery and power on but to no success. I have now dissembled the device and have noticed the following: Water damage indicator triggered only at the flex cable connection for the trackpad.*No visible corrosion on the logic board anywhere. No visible burnt/melted components on the logic board. The battery was suffering from fast power draining and required charged frequently throughout the day.
- The device was looked at for the water damage at the time and was dried by a third party and continued to work for 12 months+ with the trackpad disabled (zero cost for the quote). I was wondering if there could be any other potential issues instead of purely blaming the SMC as the culprit. Would a dead battery possibly be the case? However, there is no LED nor fan spin with the battery disabled and directly pulling from the MagSafe cable. Seems like I would have to get a multimeter to truly see if the SMC is to blame.
While SMC is important it is not different than your brain controlling your limbs, so when you’ve hurt your limbs you don’t operate on your brain you focus on the damaged arm or leg! So let’s focus on what we do know. You had a liquid spill into the system and you did find one of the LSI sensors red. As its on the trackpad its likely your trackpad needs replacing MacBook Pro 13" Retina (Late 2013-Mid 2014) Trackpad. You also talk about the power issues. You will need to make sure you have a good working MagSafe charger (make sure you get a REAL Apple unit), is the chargers LED lit and what color Amber or Green? If the chargers LED is not lit, then you need to make sure the DC-In Board is not damaged. You would want to measure the voltage at the logic board to see if power is even getting to the logic board. Did you fully remove the logic board for inspection? If not you do need to check the back side! Let us know what you discover!
