Hi all. I smashed the screen on my husbands iPad Air, not wanting to pay a small fortune to have it repaired I watched a YouTube vid and decided to do it myself, I did the replacement and followed all the steps but the screen is not working at all now, the iPad is on as when I plug in the charger it makes the noise that it does when you put it on charge but there is no picture or anything and I’m worried now as don’t want hubby to be mad that I’ve paid for a replacement screen and then to still have to pay someone to fix it. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated!!

The first thing you should do is try rebooting the iPad by holding the home button and power button at the same time for about 10 seconds. If that doesn’t work, try disconnecting the LCD and digitizer cables and then reconnecting them. Make sure they click in place fully. If it still doesn’t work, you may have broken the LCD, or it could be a backlight issue. If you shine a light on the screen and look very closely, can you faintly see any images on the screen?

Sometimes when changing a screen if you don’t disconnect the battery then it can cause a filter/fuse for the backlight to blow meaning the backlight won’t work and you will have a dark screen. Sounds like that could be your problem or could be a problem with the connector or faulty screen.

Thankyou for the HOME button and POWER combination i just repaired a damaged screen and thought i blew something or did something wrong, so your answer most helpfull indeed, will remember for the next time; if there is a next time.
