Hi everyone, I replaced the digitizer on my daughter’s iPad mini and when testing before gluing the glass back down the LCD stays dark. I can see the shapes and words on the screen if I shine a light on it, but there is no backlight. I have checked the backlight fuse/filter/diode and it looks fine, not burned and no point of solder in the center. I’m too nervous to test it with a multimeter lest I make things worse by causing more damage and the pins on mine are really too big anyway. I have also, to the best of my abilities, checked that the LCD connector and port both have no dirt, etc. and look to be in good shape. What else can I check? I’d really like to avoid having to buy another LCD and, if it comes to it, I want to be sure that the LCD is really the issue before I waste the money. Thanks for any help in advance, Mike
Did you remove the LCD connector before you removed the battery connector? This is a common mistake people make when doing the iPad mini repair and will require you to replace the LCD.
Go into settings and make sure that the brightness isn’t turned down. For whatever reason, sometimes the brightness gets turned all the way down. If that doesn’t fix it, its almost certainly a backlight filter. Its a very common issue on Minis. The good news is the part is like $1. The bad news is you need micro soldering skills and tools to repair it.
