My PS4 suddenly turned off while playing a game and wouldn’t turn back on again. The blue light would come on for a second, then I’d hear a clicking sound and it would turn off again. Needed to unplug and plug back in to get the blue light again. After some reading I figured this was a PSU issue. Put in a replacement PSU from an ebay seller and tried to turn it on but then it instantly blew up with a loud pop and I could smell smoke from the PSU. Now the blue light doesn’t turn on at all with this new PSU (still comes on when i try the original one). Did I just get a faulty replacement or is my PS4 going to keep blowing up the PSU if I buy another one?
There is nothing that could be wrong with the PS4 that would cause the PSU to blow up. The problem would have to be a bridge on the PSU itself. You were sent a defective product, but it’s possible the person who sold it to you would be unaware. I’ve only seen a PSU blow up once myself. It worked at first, but during a cleaning, a piece was knocked loose that cause a bride on the PSU’s PCB.
Sounds more like a board issue rather than a power supply problem.
