I have a relatively new Maytag MVW6230HW top load washer that on high spin cycle violently vibrates. Works okay on low spin. The service technician told me that it was defective since manufactured and will cost $800 (parts and labor) to fix. I did not get the details on the parts he was going to replace but I believe one of them was the gear box. Has anyone come across a new washing machine with a bent drive shaft ? Machine is level, shock absorbers look fine etc.. Any suggestions on how I could better diagnose the problem? The technician used his iPhone to run through a bunch of diagnostics to determine what he would replace.

Hi, How new is “relatively new”? There is a 12 month manufacturer’s warranty on the washer. Is it still within the warranty period? If so get it fixed under warranty. If out of warranty, here’s the tech sheet for the washer that may help. It shows how to run the diagnostic tests and what the error codes (if any) mean. Also found this service pointer regarding out of balance problems for your model range which may be of interest.
