I just installed a new hard drive into my system and I’m currently booting off of a USB using El Captain. Problem is, it fails to erase the drive giving me a few different reasons for not being able to but the most common one is, wiping volume data to prevent future accidental probing failed, is there a way to get around this? The first aid check says drive is good. I’ve also tried to do it using terminal and I mostly get and error for unable to write to the last block of device. Any ideas on what I’m either doing wrong or what I need to do to get this drive to format

Did you make sure the SSD is SATA II compatible? The MCP79 (9400M) machines aren’t compatible with Fixed III drives. You need a Autosense II/III drive at the bare minimum for this machine. In addition to the MCP79 not being SATA III compatible and needing a SATA II compatible SSD, we’ve often found the HD cable is at fault. You need to get a 2012 cable, put electrical tape where it rests and tape it down to the optical drive so it doesn’t move. Refer to this guide.
