Hey there, I’ve got a 2011 MacBook Pro, she works alright and I know it’s time for a new rig but I was hoping to ride this one until September. Just today I was just doing internet stuff and realized I hadn’t restarted in about a week so I closed everything down and restarted. Clicked my username, did my PW and the loading bar happened. And I waited. And waited. And left the house and came back after 2 hours and it was still showing a “full” loading bar but no movement. Now I know something is really &&^&@@ up. So I have tried: resetting PRAM, resetting NVRAM, starting in safe mode DID NOT WORK. Started in command + R (recovery?) and my Macintosh HD CoreStorage Logical Volume is showing as unmounted. I can mount it, I ran first aid and it came back OK, but when I restart after re-mounting it the same $@$* happens. Then I can hard-press quit again, I can get back to disk utility, it says unmounted, then I have to remount…you get the picture. The other thing is that when it’s mounted I can see the GB used, info says it’s writable etc. So it is being detected by the system. What am I missing here? Please help if you can. I really do not want to have to buy a new computer rn. Oh and I do have a backup so we good there ;) Thanks a lot and please ask if you want more info!!! Ps I am running High Sierra
Sadly you’re hitting a known issue with your systems HD SATA cable! Your Hard Drive Cable Is A Ticking Time Bomb! Time to replace it MacBook Pro 13" Unibody (Early 2011-Late 2011) Hard Drive Cable And here’s the guide: MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Early 2011 Hard Drive Cable Replacement You also need to be careful! As you don’t want the crease the cable as that will damage it. You want to use an old BIC pen Ink straw as a brake form to bend the corners so the cable with a nice arc.
