Chosen Solution

Hello, i have a problem with my Macbook Pro 13’’ from 2012, the problem is that my Thunderbolt port isn’t working. I bought this laptop from other person and i don’t know what is wrong. When i’ve connect my Thunderbolt to HDMI adaptor there’s nothing happens, i already try on two adaptors (both work’s perfect on other Macbook), reset my PRAM,SMC etc. but it didn’t help. In System Report i have Thunderbolt status “No device connected” and Link status “0x101”. Appstore wants to install the same Thunderbolt 1.2 update all the time, but even when i install it 5 times nothing happens. Inside, it looks like there should be something but actually i don’t know what it is/can be. Is there any solution for it ? (by the way, sorry for my bad English)

@bajobongo before replacing the board you want to clean that area with some 90%+isopropyl alcohol and take another picture of it. Post that image with your question. Use this guide Adding images to an existing question for that. Right now you have a lot of debris that is obscuring the view. Then you want to tell us what 820-XXXX your logicboard number is. This could possibly be repaired but will require some very good soldering skills. If you do not have those, consider to have the board fixed by a professional or replace it yourself. Let us know which way you want to go so we know how much detail to give you.

Yup! You blew a chip! It looks like the chip failed (overheated) and some of the pads were vaporized so you’ll need a new logic board - Sorry ;-{ Here’s the IFIXIT guide to replace your logic board: MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2012 Logic Board Replacement

I’ve discovered this post while searching for the same solution. I actually replaced new logic board and suddenly discovered that the Thunderbolt port isn’t working. In case simple but careful cleaning of the port on my Macbook Pro worked :)
