try a soft reset. Hold down the home and power button together for 15 seconds until the unit reboots. Itll fix it. Or you blew the backlight coil in repair.
Real dark as in no backlight? Did you disconnect the battery before replacing the LCD? If not, you may have damaged the blacklight circuit.
