My Bauhn remote has gone stupid. On/off not working so I turn on TV manually but remote still crazy. Source button turns source on but ok or exit do not work. Source can only be cancelled by epg button. I will have a universal remote but can’t find correct codes. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks, Peter D

Hi @pete_d , Use a digital camera or the camera in a mobile phone to test if the remote is transmitting or not when you push a button on the remote. Turn on the camera and then point the end of the remote that is normally pointed towards the TV, toward the lens of the camera so that you can see it in the lcd screen of the camera or phone. Push a button on the remote and you will “see” the IR LED at the end of the remote light up when viewed through the LCD screen. The Power, Input, Vol Up/down and Ch Up/down are the most popular buttons on a remote and because of this the contact material on the base of the button wears off the quickest. Try a less used button first to make sure that you’re doing it correctly and then try all the buttons to see which ones work and which don’t. Also make sure that there is no light with no buttons pressed, as this indicates a stuck button One way to fix individual buttons that don’t work is to open the remote (see YouTube videos for examples on how to open a remote) and put a dot of electric paint (available at electronics parts stores) on the contact surface and then use a pin to tattoo the paint into the button’s contact surface to provide a conductive layer on the button. Usually the button is made of rubber (silicone?) so the paint doesn’t adhere too well if just applied but tattooing the paint into the rubber means that it will stick. Allow the paint to thoroughly dry and then test the remote again as above to make sure that all the buttons are working Also make sure that the contact surfaces on the circuit board that the buttons “bridge” when operated are clean etc. Use either a clean, dry, lint free cloth or a clean eraser to gently clean them up if dirty.
