it is slipping when first started until warm……manual says tech only maintenance…..sounds like fluid low? is there any way to self fix?
Louie Rosenberg depending on which unit you have to check the oil or when refilling the transaxle with oil, remove the port plug , if installed, and plug (11). Fill until the oil reaches the lower lip of port (11) on side cover. You my also have a filter that you should change. That should help to eliminate the slip. If you have no tag or other identifying marks on your axle, take plenty of pictures and post those with your original question. The image is a typical location and keep the oil level to between 0.50 - 1.25 inch below the top plug
Need to flush out the low or sludged fluid in the transmission. My PYT9000 transmission began to slip at only 190 hours of use. This is how I fixed mine. Go to a tractor, automotive or other implement store and buy 2 GALLONS of 20-50 hydrostatic transmission oil, engine degreaser and a small oil siphon pump ($11).
- Engine degrease the transmission and surrounding area. Goal is to make sure no debris can fall in where the FILL plug is on the differential “pumpkin”
- Run the tractor if possible to warm up the transmission to make siphoning out the sludge easy as possible
- Remove the battery and battery tray insert. 4)Remove the fill plug using what I estimate to be a 6.5mm hex. Nothing I had would fit. It appears to be between 1/4-5/16 or 6-7mm. I was able to get it off with 1/4” that almost stripped out.
- siphon out the sludge, fill to about 1/2” below the fill hole and drive the tractor. About 1/2 quart, the rest of the oil is in the pump etc and requires driving/flushing repeatedly. 6)Flush the entire first gallon and continue into the 2nd gallon until the fluid you siphon out is clean. If your transmission is working, problem solved. If it still slips, then time for a new or rebuilt unit. Be sure to get a replacement with the drain plug conversion. These transmission require fluid change EVERY SEASON in order to last the life of the tractor. Otherwise, the 24HP PYT9000 tractor chassis will consume about 10-15 of these sealed transmissions in its lifetime.
